Torosyan and the Iranian Ambassador Discuss the Situation Related to Coronavirus
Health Minister Arsen Torosyan met with Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia. They discussed the situation related to the new coronavirus and ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.
Arsen Torosyan initially congratulated the ambassador on assuming office and then moved on to the main topic of the meeting. The minister outlined the actions being taken in Armenia.
The ambassador expressed gratitude for the meeting and shared the experience Iran has gained in battling the new coronavirus over the past two weeks. According to the ambassador, a large medical team has been established in Iran, with the primary task of preventing the spread of the virus, and a hotline operates around the clock.
Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri presented fresh data, stating that since the onset of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran, 7,280 citizens have sought hospital care, of whom 4,312 have been tested. As of noon on March 2, there have been 1,501 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Iran, with 291 recoveries and 66 reported deaths.
“Our country’s experience has shown that preventive actions should be strengthened more than treatment, and this is also crucial for Armenia, as long as the problem has not escalated,” said Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri.
The spread of misinformation about the new coronavirus and the importance of providing accurate information were also discussed. The minister emphasized that verified information is important in combating panic.
Arsen Torosyan and Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri agreed to establish direct communication with the Iranian Minister of Health. “I hope that everything will be resolved soon, and life will return to normal,” said the minister. Arsen Torosyan also expressed his readiness to provide professional support to Iran, to which the ambassador wished health to the patient infected with coronavirus in Armenia and hoped that it would be the only and last case.
