Soldier Affected by Enemy Actions to Receive Compensation: New Law
If a soldier has been injured not during combat operations, but even while being at the military unit, as a result of enemy fire, he will also have the right to compensation. This was presented today by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, Gabriel Balayan, in the National Assembly.
“It is proposed that regardless of whether the injury occurred during combat duty, while carrying out a special task, or even in the rear at the military unit, if the military personnel sustained injuries as a result of actions initiated by the enemy—such as diversions, shelling, or attacks—inflicting damage to his life or health that results in a first or second degree disability, he is eligible for compensation,” Balayan stated, adding that the new law will apply to incidents that have occurred since 2008.
According to Balayan, they plan to extend the law within the year to cover incidents that occurred after 1998.
