Senior Official In Iran Infected with Coronavirus Passes Away
On March 2, senior member of the Expediency Council (a consultative body to Iran's Supreme Leadership), Mohamad Mir Mohammadi, passed away. The Fars agency reported on the death.
The exact cause of death has not been specified, but the agency noted that the official had previously tested positive for coronavirus.
He was hospitalized in Tehran on the evening of March 1. Mir Mohammadi was 72 years old. Throughout his life, he was elected twice as a representative of Qom province to Iran's Majlis (parliament).
The Iranian Ministry of Health reported the first cases of coronavirus infection in the country on February 19, with individuals identified in Qom city. According to official information, the number of infected individuals in Iran is 978, with at least 54 recorded deaths, as reported by TASS.
