Yerevan to Have a Public Skate Park
Yerevan will have a modern public skate park by mid-this year, according to the city’s municipality. Mayor Hayk Marutyan has signed a contract with Vilen Shatvoryan, president of the Union of Armenians in Ukraine.
“We have come to a wonderful decision that this should be a project that first and foremost delights our youth, and the idea was born that this should be a skate park. This is a long-awaited and much-needed project in the city of Yerevan. Unfortunately, we do not have a skate park, and our youth today find various places to engage in activities. This is not just a sport; it is a new culture, a place for entertainment where young people will both engage in sports and spend their time. This is very important for the city, and this is the beginning of this culture and these types of hubs,” said Mayor Hayk Marutyan.
“When we see that people from our country are reaching out to us, trying to connect with us and be useful to each other, it gives us strength and enthusiasm. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we must always maintain the connection, no matter the form,” stated Vilen Shatvoryan, president of the Union of Armenians in Ukraine.
According to the agreement, a skate playground will be constructed soon in a public area covering 5044 square meters, along the 6th section of the Circular Park, near the St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral. The work will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will be completed by June 30, during which the southern slope of the playground will be shaped into an amphitheater facing the playground. The area will include a medical point, a skate rental point, and stylish fans utilizing solar panels, along with improvements to the green areas cleared of construction by adding unique landscape designs. The overall area will be equipped with perimeter lighting using an LED system.
The second phase, to be completed by August 30 of this year, will enhance the existing green area in the eastern part of the site (approximately 1845.0 sq. m.), enriched with unique landscape and botanical designs and viewing platforms. Additionally, the park will be equipped with public restrooms as part of a separate project.
