Marzpeters Summon 3-4 Village Leaders to Ensure 'Yes' Victory: Gevorg Gorgisyan

We are already receiving reports from various regions that regional governors are summoning village leaders and pressuring them to ensure a 'Yes' victory in their area. This was stated by Gevorg Gorgisyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia parliamentary faction, during a conversation with the Freedom Radio station.

“It is important that this time administrative resources are not used again, because we are already receiving alerts from different regions that governors are summoning village leaders and forcing them to ensure a 'Yes' victory in their area,” Gorgisyan said, adding that they have already received such alerts from 3-4 regions.

However, Gorgisyan did not wish to disclose which regions these specifically are and said, “It seems we are seeing old, Republican methods today, and I urge everyone to simply remain within the bounds of the law. No village leader will come out in front of the media and say, ‘Yes, I have been pressured,’ just as the Republicans used to say, ‘Hooray, we gave bribes.’ Well, let’s bring someone who will say that we gave bribes. But the country is small, and we receive information from various places.”

Gorgisyan expressed hope that the 'Yes' campaign headquarters led by Suren Papikyan is not making secret requests to the governors apart from public appeals and that the elections will proceed in accordance with the law. “I do not believe that any governor, as they say, has the guts to execute any functions without informing Mr. Papikyan,” he said.
