Flu and ARI in Armenia: Yerevan Hospitals Operating Under Heavy Load

The situation regarding acute respiratory infections continues to stabilize in Armenia, with some indicators also showing a decline. A downward trend is observed in outpatient visits, emergency calls, and hospital admissions.

According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, despite the stabilization of the situation, hospitals in the republic, particularly in Yerevan, are still operating under heavy load, where 92.8% of patients are children under 18 years of age.

“Stabilization is also observed in educational institutions concerning absenteeism due to respiratory infections. As previously mentioned, an 'epidemiological filter' is being implemented in educational institutions, which prohibits the entry of children exhibiting symptoms typical of acute respiratory infections. Today, 278 children were not allowed to participate in classes; specifically, 153 were sent home in Yerevan as a result of filtering, while 125 were sent home in the regions.

According to laboratory research results, the circulation of the H1N1 subtype of influenza continues in the republic, with isolated cases of the H3N2 subtype and type B influenza, as well as pathogens of other respiratory infections.

The Ministry of Health reiterates its recommendations to avoid acute respiratory infections and complications following the flu: get vaccinated against seasonal influenza by contacting your registered polyclinic, avoid contact with individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms, and if you are ill, stay home. Particularly, do not allow children with flu-like symptoms to attend school and kindergarten, ensuring they receive consultation and treatment from a physician. If you are sick, call your local pediatrician, therapist, or family doctor, and do not attempt self-medication or use antibiotics, as they are not indicated for the treatment of flu and acute respiratory infections. Dress appropriately for the weather, maintain hygiene when coughing and sneezing, drink plenty of fluids, frequently ventilate enclosed spaces, and adhere to personal hygiene practices,” the statement reads.
