No Need to Close Border with Georgia Yet: Armen Grigoryan
The Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, stated that there is currently no need to close the border with Georgia in the framework of efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus. In an interview with Armenpress, Grigoryan responded to a question regarding whether the issue of closing the border with Georgia could be discussed: "If there is a need, it will be discussed. At this point, there is no need for that yet."
Regarding whether there would be serious national security issues if both the Iranian and Georgian borders were closed, the Secretary of the Security Council replied: "We have not reached that situation yet. From a security perspective, we will discuss it. If there is a need, we will close them; if not, we will not."
On February 25, a government decision came into force to temporarily restrict communication with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Accordingly, land and air communications with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been limited for a two-week period, allowing only: 1) In terms of land communication, a. Entry of vehicles carrying cargo from the Islamic Republic of Iran into the Republic of Armenia, allowing only the entry of the driver and one accompanying driver; b. Return of citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran; c. Return of citizens of the Republic of Armenia from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia; d. Entry of officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and their accompanying guests coming to Armenia on an official visit; e. Entry and exit of employees and their family members at diplomatic missions of both countries; 2) In terms of air communication, the entry (return) of persons specified in clauses "b"-"e" of the first sub-paragraph of the first point of this decision.
