Man Attempts Suicide in Stepanavan
On February 26, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Lori region. Around 21:30, in the initial part of Baghramyan Street near the statue of Stepan Shahumyan in Stepanavan, the Rapid Response Division officers of the Stepanavan police noticed a man, engulfed in flames, shouting and running around.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamsyan, the police approached the man, who was clearly intoxicated and had stripped off his burning trousers while standing on the edge of a bridge. With half of his body over the metal barrier of the bridge and holding a plastic container filled with gasoline, he attempted to pour more gasoline on himself, threatening to jump off the bridge in that state.
Thanks to the quick thinking and prompt reaction of the police officers, they were able to restrain him immediately and prevent his suicide attempt. Following this, a medical team from Stepanavan Hospital, which arrived promptly, transported him to the Stepanavan Medical Center.
