Homeless Animals Quarantined in Moscow Due to Coronavirus

According to Moscow Deputy Mayor Anastasia Rakova and Elena Andreyevna, head of the Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare, a widespread fight against the threat of the new COVID-19 coronavirus infection has begun, targeting rodents (deratization) and stray animals.

The information about the start of deratization against rodents and the fight against stray dogs and cats was provided by the Interfax agency. “The service is conducting extensive explanatory work with the population, including in the media, on social networks, and in public transportation, talking openly, calmly, and without panic about everything,” said Elena Andreyevna. “We can prevent the importation and spread of this terrible virus in Moscow,” she assured.

It is still unclear which animals might specifically be dangerous carriers of the infection. Recently, a joint team from the South China Agricultural University and the Guangdong Modern Agricultural Laboratory discovered that the virus could be transmitted by pangolins, small animals from the subtropical regions of Asia.
