Parent Hits Teacher at a School in Yerevan; Deputy Mayor Visits
The Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Virabyan, addressed the recent reports on his Facebook page regarding an incident at one of the capital's schools where a parent reportedly slapped a teacher.
“In the morning, I visited School No. 52, where according to widespread information, a parent (the mother) exhibited aggressive behavior towards the teacher in front of the children and slapped her. I had a lengthy conversation with the child's father, asking him about his perceptions of the incident. The father essentially denies that any violence occurred against the child at school back in December, which could have led to yesterday's incident. According to him, the child is unsure if such a thing happened and presents different versions of what occurred on different days. Authorities and specialists responded to reports of violence against the child, and no evidence of such violence has been confirmed.”
“I also spoke with the school administration and the teacher who was subjected to aggression the day before. In any case, I consider such behavior towards an educator unacceptable. It disrupts the education process, subjects students to stress, undermines the reputation of teachers in society, and, overall, the dignity of an individual is one of the highest values enshrined in the Constitution. Regardless of the unpleasant circumstances of the incident, we must ensure the child's stable psychological state and a normal learning process. I suggested to the parent that the child be transferred to another class. I believe that answers to remaining questions will come from the law enforcement agencies,” he wrote.
