Live: First Court Hearing Begins in Case of Serzh Sargsyan and Others
At this moment, the first court hearing in the case of Serzh Sargsyan and others is starting.
It is worth noting that Serzh Sargsyan is accused of organizing the embezzlement of approximately half a billion drams from the state budget. The defendants in the case also include former Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan and businessman Barsegh Beglaryan, who is considered one of Sargsyan's close associates, as well as former Ministry of Agriculture official Gevorg Harutyunyan.
The court case is being heard by Judge Vahe Misakyan of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court. A travel restriction measure has been imposed on Sargsyan, requiring him not to leave the country. He does not accept the charges, and his lawyers argue that he is being politically persecuted.
The Special Investigative Service deemed the gathered evidence sufficient to forward the case to court. The Prosecutor's Office confirmed the indictment at the end of last month and sent the case to the court.
Supporters of Serzh Sargsyan, including Galust Sahakyan, Armen Ashotyan, and other political figures, have gathered in front of the court.
