It Is Time to Establish the Constitutional Court as an Institution, Says Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, stated that it is time to establish the Constitutional Court as an institution in Armenia. He made this remark on February 25 during a fundraising event organized by the ‘Yes’ campaign for the constitutional amendments referendum.

“To make the Republic of Armenia a strong, viable, sovereign, and fully-fledged state, we need institutions. In May 2018, the victory of the citizen, one of the most important institutions, was recorded. In the next phase, the institution of elections was reaffirmed in Armenia, because we irreversibly closed the period of electoral fraud. In the next phase, we established the National Assembly as an institution. The next institution that was established is the government, as the Republic of Armenia elected a government and a Prime Minister. We have already clearly outlined the path for the establishment of the judiciary as an institution, and now it is the time to establish the Constitutional Court as an institution,” said Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister noted that the current constitution has a very specific description of the Constitutional Court, but such a Constitutional Court does not exist.
