Walk and Rally in Vienna Commemorates Sumgait and Baku Massacres

On February 22, a walk and rally took place in Vienna to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the Sumgait massacres and the 30th anniversary of the Baku massacres, with the participation of representatives from the Armenian community of Austria, organized by the Austrian Armenian National Committee.

According to Armenpress, the demonstration began near the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, where participants condemned the Sumgait and Baku massacres with statements in German and English. Following this, protestors, carrying flags of Armenia, Artsakh, and Austria, as well as placards denouncing Azerbaijan, marched toward St. Stephen's Square (Stephansplatz) located in Vienna’s city center.

The demonstrators raised banners demanding justice for the victims of the Baku and Sumgait massacres, with slogans such as “We demand justice for the victims of the Baku and Sumgait massacres,” “The Baku and Sumgait massacres are unpunished crimes,” and “Azerbaijan is guilty of ethnic cleansing.”

Numerous passersby and tourists were handed out flyers, books, and video materials exposing the atrocities committed against Armenians in Sumgait and Baku, the cover-up of state-level crimes, and Azerbaijan's ongoing anti-Armenian and militaristic policies.
