Incident at Yerevan's School No. 52: Parent Slaps Teacher in Front of Students
Today, an incident took place at the Yerevan School No. 52 named after Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, involving a parent and a teacher in front of students. The school's teaching staff issued a statement regarding the matter.
"For about a month now, the normal educational process has been disrupted at Yerevan School No. 52. A parent of a fifth-grade student has filed an unjustified complaint against the Armenian language and literature teacher with the Yerevan Municipal Education Department, demanding the teacher's removal from the school. In the presence of the principal and the inspector, the parent’s husband attempted to slap the teacher, which was prevented. Following that, not satisfied, the parent contacted the police with the same demand.
It should be noted that due to frequent absences caused by the parent, the child has remained in the same grade and continues to skip classes. The parent has also approached the police with the same demand for the teacher's removal from the school.
During these days, the child has not attended school. The school administration and teaching staff have done everything possible to return the child to school and engage them in the normal educational process. Today, on February 24, the parent accompanied the child to class, claiming that they also wanted to participate in the educational process. Upon entering the classroom, they insulted the teacher with disrespectful words. The teacher requested the parent to leave the classroom, but the parent, exhibiting aggressive behavior, slapped the teacher in front of the students, causing panic and distress among the children.
It should be added that this teacher has been teaching at the same school for about 30 years, is a resident of the neighborhood, and even outside of school, their safety is not ensured. The school has reached out to the relevant authorities, but the teaching staff is concerned about who should protect the interests of a selfless and dedicated teacher and restore their damaged reputation. This issue does not only concern one teacher; today, the rights of teachers are unprotected in every aspect," states the announcement.
