The Issue of Yegvard Maternity Home has been Resolved, Says Romanos Petrosyan

The construction work at the maternity department of Yegvard's "Nairi" medical center will commence in a few days, and the issue concerning the closure of the maternity home has been definitively resolved. This was stated by Kotayk Province Governor Romanos Petrosyan in an interview with Tert.am.

"We have also begun the overhaul and complete re-equipping of the maternity home. The maternity department will undergo a complete renovation, including a separate entrance for the department, the women's consultation section, and the delivery units. After that, the department will be furnished with brand new furniture and equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment," the governor detailed.

He also informed that the state funding for this year has been transferred to the maternity home, and it is operating normally. A change in the acting director of the “Nairi” medical center has also taken place. "The change in the acting director was made to ensure more effective management, utilize crisis management tools, and achieve maximum results in a short time," Petrosyan clarified, emphasizing that the previous acting director did not possess these capabilities.

"He himself realized that he could not overcome the issues that we placed before him," the governor added, also informing that a competition for the position of director will be announced soon.

It is worth noting that according to a decision by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, the funding for several regional healthcare institutions will be suspended, leading to the closure of various maternity homes in the regions. According to that decision, the number of births in maternity homes must reach 150, and maternity homes falling below this number must be dissolved. In light of the news regarding the closure of Yegvard maternity home, local residents staged a protest on January 8 by blocking the road.
