Hakob Karapetyan Addresses Concerns About Rock Paintings
The spokesperson for the Yerevan City Hall, Hakob Karapetyan, has addressed the alarm raised by political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan on his Facebook page.
We present the post below:
“The rock paintings from the 2nd millennium BC located in Tigran the Great Park are not under threat; the matter is under the direct supervision of the community leader. The history of construction in the area near the stones is quite characteristic of our reality. The property owner has applied to the City Hall several times over the past 1.3 years to obtain permission for construction on his property. Since the area factually falls within a public park, the mayor has refused to grant construction permits. However, the property owner has managed to secure this permit through a court ruling, and has now begun construction.”
