Armenian Woman Becomes Europe's Strongest Woman

Leila Amirbekyan was born in Tbilisi to an Armenian family, later moving first to the Krasnodar Krai in Russia and then to Omsk. According to shantnews.am, the girl who engages in power extremism is considered one of the strongest women in Russia in this sport.

She decided to take up sports at the age of 27, aiming for a toned physique. While working out at the gym, she met one of the world's strongest men, Mikhail Shivlyakov, who began to coach her. Leila managed to obtain her father's permission to train in powerlifting, despite her parents' 'traditional' upbringing.

“My parents raised me as a traditional Armenian girl, but I aspired towards sports,” says Amirbekyan. In 2017, Leila Amirbekyan, who was then considered 'the strongest woman in Russia' in the 63 kg category, participated in the Russian show 'I Can' aired on Channel One. During the program, she set a record that was registered in the Russian record book.

In 2019, the Armenian woman was recognized as the winner of the Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold Classic Europe competition in Barcelona, becoming Europe’s strongest woman.
