17-Year-Old Yerevan Resident Makes Purchases with Counterfeit Russian Banknotes
A 17-year-old resident of Yerevan has made purchases using counterfeit Russian banknotes in Kapan, according to the press office of the Republic of Armenia Police.
On February 21, operational information was received at the Siunik regional police department indicating that a resident of Yerevan had circulated a sample resembling a 5,000 RUB banknote in the city of Kapan. Thanks to operational and investigative measures carried out by officers from the Siunik regional department in collaboration with departments in Kapan and Goris, two girls aged 17 and 19, as well as a 33-year-old man, were brought into custody at the Goris police station at approximately 19:35.
During a personal search, 13 samples of 5,000 RUB and 1 sample of 2,000 RUB banknotes resembling real currency were found on the 17-year-old girl, while the man had 3 samples of 5,000 RUB banknotes. The girl informed the police that she had used two of the 5,000 RUB banknote samples to make purchases in Kapan.
Based on the conducted measures, it was found that around 18:00, after making purchases at a store located in Shahumyan Square in Kapan, she had paid with the mentioned banknotes. A report has been received from the victim. Efforts are underway to identify other affected individuals. The circumstances are being clarified, and materials are being prepared.
