Stray Animal Sterilization Center Issues Statement

Stray Animal Sterilization Center Issues Statement

In Yerevan, operational measures are being taken to identify problematic stray dogs. This announcement was made by the Stray Animal Sterilization Center on their Facebook page.

The center's statement also notes that if a dog has bitten someone, it is essential to first seek medical attention and receive the necessary care, then request a corresponding document from the doctor regarding the incident and submit it to the Stray Animal Sterilization Center. Additionally, information about the dog must be provided (for the clip, color, location, and preferably a photo).

Recently, a post by user Marine Ohanyan raised significant concern as she reported a large number of stray dogs in the Sheram neighborhood of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district, which have been regularly biting children. The photos shared by Ohanyan, showing the injuries sustained by the children, received widespread attention.

Yosef Kubatyam, head of the information and public relations department of the Yerevan Municipality, stated that the incident has been regarded as an alert by the municipality, and in such cases, they attempt to contact the resident to locate the dogs. He commented that sterilized dogs are not aggressive unless they are struck or harmed. Kubatyam also mentioned that there is another aspect to the issue: aside from Yerevan, no other region addresses dog problems, and often unsterilized dogs from the provinces come to Yerevan.
