Stabilization of Acute Respiratory Infection Situation Continues in the Republic
The situation regarding acute respiratory infections in the Republic of Armenia continues to stabilize. According to epidemiological surveillance data, today the attendance at outpatient polyclinic organizations is at the same level as the previous day, while emergency calls related to these diseases have decreased.
Despite the stabilization, hospitals in Yerevan are still operating under severe overload. 91.7% of those receiving treatment are children under 18 years old.
Positive trends are also observed in educational institutions concerning absences due to respiratory infections. If on February 17, the absenteeism rate was 7.1%, today it stands at 4.4%. As you know, an "epidemiological filter" is implemented in educational institutions, which prohibits the entry of children with symptoms characteristic of acute respiratory infections. Today, 351 children were not allowed to participate in classes, with 142 sent home from Yerevan, and 209 from the regions.
According to laboratory test results, the circulation of the H1N1 subtype of the flu (observed to be retreating) continues in the republic, and in rare cases, the H3N2 subtype, as well as type B influenza and other respiratory infectious agents.
To avoid contracting acute respiratory infections and flu, as well as to prevent post-flu complications, the Ministry of Health reminds the public: vaccinate against seasonal flu by visiting your registered polyclinic; avoid contact with patients exhibiting flu-like symptoms; if you are ill, stay at home, especially do not allow children with flu-like symptoms to attend school and kindergarten; ensure consultation and treatment by a doctor; if you are sick, call your local pediatrician, therapist, or family doctor and do not self-medicate; do not use antibiotics, as they are not indicated for the treatment of flu and acute respiratory infections; dress according to the weather; observe coughing and sneezing etiquette; drink plenty of fluids; frequently ventilate enclosed spaces; and follow personal hygiene practices.
