Rest in Peace, Master: Mayor Marutyan Writes About Yervand Manaryan
The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, posted on his Facebook page: "Late last night, I received the news of the master’s passing. Yervand Manaryan was from the generation of Armenians who returned from the diaspora in the 1940s, one of the brightest stars of the golden generation, one of those who shaped the cultural image of Yerevan in the second half of the 20th century. He was a man who established high standards of civic consciousness for all of us, especially for the artists in our times.”
The Mayor noted that Manaryan's puppet theater was not only a magical world but also a forge for tomorrow's free citizens of an independent country. Marutyan quoted the master’s words: "It is better for the state to spend money on developing a child than to later spend funds on keeping him in prison due to poor upbringing."
Hayk Marutyan also emphasized that the name and work of the true people’s artist, Yervand Manaryan, an honorary citizen of Yerevan, will remain with us for a long time as a guide for kindness, honesty, and free thought. "Rest in peace, Master.”
