No Tuberculosis Pathogens Found in the Zoo: Statement

The Yerevan Zoo has issued a statement that reads:

“On February 5, the Yerevan Zoo was closed for quarantine/preventive measures. One of the two-humped camels had fallen, and bacteria characteristic of tuberculosis pathogens were found in samples taken from the animal. Under the supervision of the Food Safety Inspection Body and the Republican Veterinary Sanitary and Phytosanitary Laboratory Services Center, a clinical examination of the zoo animals was conducted, and no animals that had fallen or refused to eat were detected. Mechanical cleaning was carried out at the site of the camel's fall, including the incineration of hay and care items, disinfection of the storage area and adjacent territories, and susceptible animals were subjected to tuberculin testing. As a result, no sick animals were found.

At the same time, the National Center for Pulmonology conducted relevant tests among the staff caring for the zoo animals. No cases of pulmonary tuberculosis were identified among any employees.

The Yerevan Zoo will resume its activities in the coming days, with additional information to be provided.”
