Armenia and Sweden to Expand Cooperation in Human Rights Protection
Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan received the Chargé d'Affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Armenia, Mr. Birger Karlsson, on February 18. During the meeting, Arman Tatoyan presented the directions and principles of the Human Rights Defender's work, the status of conventions, and the efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable groups.
The parties also discussed awareness-raising campaigns regarding the rights of women and children in society, which have been implemented by the Human Rights Defender. Arman Tatoyan emphasized that the Human Rights Defender acts as a third party in a case being heard by the European Court of Human Rights against Armenia, and presents special positions to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, aimed at the situation of the implementation of ECHR judgments by Armenia.
Mr. Birger Karlsson highlighted the importance of the work of the Human Rights Defender in Armenia. The parties agreed to expand bilateral cooperation and outlined paths for collaboration with the national human rights protection institution operating in Sweden and other human rights defender organizations.
