A Bill to Commemorate the Victims of the Armenian Genocide Registered in Ukraine's Parliament
A bill to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to AnalitikaUA.net, the legislative initiative by Daria Volodina, a member of the Servant of the People party, was registered on February 14 (No. 3070, 02/14/2020).
According to the parliamentarian, this is a tragedy and pain of such magnitude that it is simply impossible not to recognize it over time.
Vilen Shatvoryan, the head of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, described the deputy's initiative in a statement as an important step, testifying to the consistent adherence to the concepts of humanity, truth, and justice.
The website reminds that this is already the fourth legislative initiative in the last ten years. Recently, Anton Polyakov, a member of the Servant of the People party, had registered a bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide (No. 2376, 05.11.2019).
On June 6, 2013, the Verkhovna Rada registered a bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide that occurred in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. The initiators of bill No. 2254a were Ukrainian parliamentarians Vilen Shatvoryan, Arsen Avakov, and Nver Mkhitaryan. On April 3, 2015, the Verkhovna Rada registered for the second time a bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide by parliamentarian Vitaliy Barvinenko (No. 2530, 04/03/2015), at that time joined by dozens of parliamentarians.
