The city of Wuhan, China, with a population of 11 million, has been completely isolated for the second week due to the outbreak of the new type of coronavirus. ABC News has released drone footage and images showing the deserted city. According to Auroranews.am, this is reported by 1tv.ge.
On January 23, Chinese authorities declared a quarantine in Wuhan to halt the spread of the new coronavirus. All transportation, including trains, has ceased operations, and air traffic is prohibited. This represents the largest quarantine in human history.
According to scientists, the virus, known as 2019-nCoV, spread among humans from a seafood market in Wuhan. As of the latest reports, over 24,000 people are currently infected, with death tolls reaching 493. 915 patients have recovered.
On January 27, city authorities also banned the movement of personal vehicles in Wuhan. Only vehicles transporting food with special permits are allowed to operate in the city. It can be said that the quarantine has turned Wuhan into a ghost city.
Immediately after the quarantine in Wuhan, authorities isolated nearby 15 cities, resulting in approximately 45 million people being cut off from the world. According to reports, residents of Wuhan primarily stay indoors and rarely go out to buy food and masks. Supermarket employees are wearing protective suits.
According to Reuters, Chinese authorities have asked farmers to increase vegetable production and have opened roads for trucks to deliver food supplies. The government will impose strict penalties on shop owners who raise food and mask prices during this period.
Rapidly, an additional hospital was built in Wuhan specifically for patients infected with the coronavirus as there were not enough spaces in other hospitals. The city's sports venues and various buildings have been transformed into temporary hospitals.
