Another Animal Dies at Yerevan Zoo
According to EcoNews.am, one of the camels housed at the Yerevan Zoo has died. The exact causes of the animal's death are still unknown.
It is worth noting that the two-humped camels (Camelus bactrianus) are among the long-time residents of the Yerevan Zoo. Currently, this species is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) according to IUCN standards and is found only in two Asian countries: China and Mongolia. A very small population also survives in Russia. It is rarely encountered in the wild and is protected.
In the past two months, several other species have also died at the Yerevan Zoo, including capybaras, pheasants, and a lizard. There is no information available about this on the official website of the zoo.
It is also noted that in November 2019, Vladimir Simonian was appointed as the acting director of the Yerevan Zoo.
