Will Putin Agree to the 'Deal of the Century'? Netanyahu is in Moscow

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has just arrived in Moscow from the United States. He will discuss the Middle East peace plan presented yesterday by U.S. President Donald Trump, referred to as the 'Deal of the Century'. The Russian Foreign Ministry has already clarified that no deal will be made without the approval of Palestine. However, Netanyahu has different objectives.

Putin and Netanyahu previously met last year in Jerusalem during an event organized in memory of Holocaust victims. According to RIA Novosti, Netanyahu believes that Moscow's position could influence the perception of the implementation of peace initiatives by Washington and Tel Aviv. He argues that Russia's stance and opinion have always been a leading factor in the Arab world, and that Palestinians may also follow this position.

Nevertheless, the Kremlin has been quite reserved in its response to the deal presented by the Trump administration. In response to Netanyahu's comments, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov stated that it is still too early to draw conclusions or provide a specific stance. He remarked, 'We believe it is a priority to negotiate with the Palestinians and seek compromises. We do not know what position Washington has regarding the resolution of bilateral conflicts.'

It should be recalled that yesterday, during an announcement in the presence of the Israeli Prime Minister, the U.S. President discussed his plan for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, indicating that it 'differs from all previous proposals regarding the resolution of the conflict'. The foundation of Trump's plan is the concept of two states. According to Trump’s proposal, the capital of Palestine is to be in East Jerusalem, yet at the same time, Trump states that Jerusalem should remain Israel’s 'undivided' capital, meaning that he is offering both Palestinians and Jews the same capital.

The U.S. President promises Palestinians a doubling of territory, while also allowing Israel large settlements on the western bank of the Jordan River. In exchange for Palestine recognizing Israel, Israel promises not to build new settlements for four years, while Trump pledges significant investments of around $50 billion.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has already reacted negatively to Trump's proposal, stating that 'Jerusalem is not for sale', and that the Trump-Netanyahu deal should go to the 'dustbin of history'. Abbas emphasized that the Palestinians are ready for negotiations but not with the U.S. nor regarding Trump's plan.
