51-Year-Old Son Assaults His Elderly Parents in Aragatsotn Province
Investigations are underway at the Ashtarak division of the police regarding an incident that occurred on January 9 in the Aragatsotn province. At around 1:00 AM, a call was received by the Ashtarak police department from the ‘Ashtarak’ medical center reporting that two citizens had been admitted with injuries diagnosed as 'laceration to the occipital region and contusion to the left chest'. An operational group from the Ashtarak police department was dispatched to the hospital.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, police established that the injured individuals were 72-year-old Rima Sh. and 79-year-old Vazgen Sh., both residents of the village of Byurakan. Upon arrival, the police were informed by the couple that their injuries were the result of a fall at home.
As medical personnel were providing necessary treatment to the injured, officers from the community police department of the Ashtarak police conducted a preliminary inquiry and determined that the injured were, in fact, spouses and that their statements did not align with the evidence.
Further investigations revealed that the couple had sustained their injuries on January 8 from being assaulted at home by their own son, 51-year-old Arshak Sh. Following discussions with officers, the suspect, Arshak Sh., reported to the Ashtarak police station and provided an explanation regarding the incident.
