One Person Involved as Suspect in Case of Obstructing Journalist's Activity

The investigative department of the Ararat Regional Investigative Committee has initiated proceedings concerning a case of obstructing the professional legal activities of a journalist from the 'Kentron' television company.

On December 24, 2019, around 1:00 PM, in the area of a fish farm located in the community of Hovtashat, Ararat region, the journalist's lawful professional activities were obstructed.

A criminal case has been opened by the police under part 1 of Article 164 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which has been forwarded to the Masis Investigative Department of the Ararat Regional Investigative Committee for further investigation.

As a result of investigative and other procedural actions, several circumstances surrounding the incident have been clarified, and factual data regarding the identity of the person who allegedly obstructed the journalist's professional activities has been obtained. This individual, a resident of the Ararat region born in 1966, has been involved as a suspect and has been interrogated regarding the case. A signature not to leave has been chosen as a precautionary measure against him.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to ensure an objective, complete, and multifaceted examination of the circumstances of the case.
