16-Year-Old Girl Found Strangled Followed from Bus Stop
In Yerevan, 16-year-old Sara Karapetyan was found strangled. Before transferring to the Vostan School, she studied at Artashat School No. 1 until the ninth grade. Tina Margaryan, the principal of the Artashat School, told Aravot.am that Sara didn’t complete her studies at their school and was a quiet child with no unusual behavior.
The principal of Vostan School, Gegham Arshakyan, shared that Sara was an excellent student. “She was a wonderful girl with a very high level of education. There was probably no one watching her closely. She transferred from School No. 1 because her mother did not adapt well with the members of the community, so they decided to move her to us.”
“She was under my personal supervision, and together with her class teacher, we managed to help her with her attendance at school. It was difficult for her to come to school, and perhaps her parent overlooked this,” he added. Her father had promised to bring her to school every morning, but after he went to Russia, that promise was not kept.
Sara received the highest scores on her unified examinations. From our school, seven students applied to the State Humanitarian College in Artashat, six of whom did not pass the competition and returned to our school. Only Sara was accepted into the college.
Sara's mother, Nelly Karapetyan, works in the “Getap” taxi service in the village of Azatavan. Petik Ghazaryan, the head of the Azatavan community, mentioned in an interview that Sara was a very intelligent girl. He also noted that Nelly told him she had seen Sara standing at the bus stop in Yerevan on the day of the incident, holding her friend’s tablet. The suspect, Rafael Sukiasyan, followed her without recognizing her and went to her home.
When the girl opened the door, Rafael pushed her, entering from behind, trying to take the tablet. However, since the tablet belonged to her friend, Sara resisted, and the young man strangled her and took the tablet with him.
Ghazaryan also mentioned that Sara lived in a rented apartment, and her grandmother was preparing to move in to live with her granddaughter.
