Deceased Soldier Found Was Married and Had an 11-Year-Old Son

On January 6, a 32-year-old contract serviceman, Gegham Khachatryan, reportedly committed suicide at a combat position of a military unit's guard post. He was from Berd, Tavush region.

The mayor of Berd, Harutyun Manucharyan, informed NEWS.am that the serviceman was married and had an 11-year-old son. According to the mayor, the family had been living in Berd on rent after returning from Russia, and Gegham Khachatryan had been a contract serviceman for several years.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that on January 6, around 3:00 PM, at the combat position of military unit N of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, contract serviceman Gegham Khachatryan inflicted a fatal gunshot wound on himself from a provided firearm.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated by the sixth investigative department of the Military Investigative Main Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia under the first part of Article 110 of the RA Criminal Code, and an investigation is underway.
