Armenian Athletes Won 222 Medals in 2019
During 2019, Armenian athletes achieved a total of 222 medals, including 61 gold, 84 silver, and 77 bronze. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.
Weightlifters Simon Martirosyan and Hakob Mkrtchyan earned the titles of World and European Champions, while judoka Tigran Kiryakosyan and freestyle wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan became European Champions. The European Games Champions included Greco-Roman wrestlers Arthur Aleksanyan, boxers Hovhannes Bachkov and Arthur Hovhannisyan, artistic gymnast Arthur Davtyan, and judoka Tigran Kiryakosyan.
At the European Games held in Minsk, Belarus, Armenia was represented by 37 athletes, who won 5 gold medals (1 in Greco-Roman wrestling, 2 in boxing, 1 in sambo, and 1 in artistic gymnastics), 3 silver medals (1 in Greco-Roman wrestling, 1 in sambo, and 1 in artistic gymnastics), and 3 bronze medals (2 in boxing and 1 in sambo). Among the 43 countries participating in the European Games, the Armenian delegation ranked 11th in the team standings.
Additionally, 35 federations included in the state support program conducted 100 championships in the Republic of Armenia, 147 training camps, and participated in 195 international competitions throughout the past year, including the European and World Championships for adults, juniors, and cadets.
