Fact: Controversy Surrounding the Election of the FFA President
«Fact» newspaper writes that on December 23, the election for the FFA president will take place, a topic that remains highly controversial. Four candidates were proposed, but one of them, Arsen Agajanyan, was not registered. Thus, three candidates remain: Khoren Hovhanisyan, Tovmas Grigoryan, and Armen Melikbekyan.
According to the information from «Fact», authorities are making every effort to appoint Melikbekyan as the FFA president. Notably, just a few days before his nomination, Melikbekyan stated, “I cannot envision a scenario in which my nomination would become possible or in which I would have the desire to run, because I don’t have such a desire. That would only happen in an extreme case, if I understood that there is no person who I envision could ensure the continuation of this role.”
However, only a week later, such a “scenario” emerged. Even more interestingly, his candidacy was proposed by the FC Urartu, whose owner, Jevan Cheloyants, had recently harshly criticized Melikbekyan, stating that he “is incapable of working” and that he has failed in the federation's duties. In fact, two months later, Cheloyants apparently disagrees with himself.
Moreover, according to «Fact», there are serious discontentments in the football community regarding Melikbekyan’s activities, and if he is elected, there could be undesirable serious developments. However, according to our sources, no matter how much the authorities are working daily with those entitled to vote, Melikbekyan’s victory still appears highly questionable.
