We Will Foil All Attempts to Turn Amulsar into a Mine: Statement by Sasna Tsrer

The "Sasna Tsrer" pan-Armenian party has released a statement regarding the Amulsar mine, declaring that they will thwart all attempts to convert Amulsar into a mining site. Below is the party's statement:

"On December 9, at the Grant Resort hotel in Jermuk, the Deputy Chief of Police of Armenia, the advisor to the Chief of Police, other police officials, the governor of Vayots Dzor, and the mayor of Jermuk met with a group of local residents who are participating in the blockade of roads leading to Amulsar. During the meeting, officials representing the Armenian government proposed to open the entrances to Amulsar and allow Lydian company to carry out winterization works. This move by the government possibly has significant motives. Reports circulating in the media indicate that Lydian could face default if it does not show movement by December 20 of this year.

The residents present firmly rejected this proposal. However, recognizing that the issue of Amulsar affects not only them but the entire community and the Armenian nation, they announced they would organize a public discussion and present the community's stance in the coming days. We are confident that participants in the public discussion will unanimously oppose the opening of Amulsar’s entrances.

Moreover, it is deeply concerning that the Armenian government continues to steadfastly support the nation-endangering project at Amulsar and is attempting various tactics to save the Lydian company, which is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy.

Regardless of the government's motives and actions on this matter, we declare that we, alongside the caring Armenian community, will thwart all attempts to turn Amulsar into a mine for the future of generations. Amulsar will remain a mountain."
