National Assembly Approves Bill to Send Constitutional Court Judges into Early Retirement
The National Assembly has approved the bill regarding the early retirement of judges of the Constitutional Court in its first reading. A total of 80 votes were needed for the approval of the bill. 65 deputies voted in favor, while 33 were opposed.
Additionally, the votes of 18 deputies who were absent from the session but submitted their support via letter were counted, resulting in a final tally of 83 votes in favor, thus the Assembly approved the bill.
It is important to note that the bill proposes that Constitutional Court judges, along with the President of the Court Hrayr Tovmasyan, voluntarily resign by January 31, 2020. If the President and judges resign, they will receive a pension equivalent to their salary until the end of their term in office.
