Incident Details: Karen Sarukhanyan Discusses Attack on His Friend

The incident began on December 7 when we noticed a wreath in the early morning, which I later posted about on my Facebook page, noting that it was brought early in the morning, not with all the other wreaths. It might have trembled as it was delivered, carried heavily by people. This was stated by Karen Sarukhanyan, a member of the ‘My Step’ faction in the National Assembly, in a conversation with ArmDaily.am regarding the attack on his friend in Gyumri.

“The next day, they tried to meet with me through my friends and relatives, but I responded that they should come and register at our reception office as citizens, and I would accept them. In the evening, we met with friends, and after that, when my friend was alone, two individuals approached him as he was leaving the store, asking, ‘What is your connection to Karen Sarukhanyan?’ When he said, ‘He is my friend,’ they started hitting him,” said the MP.

When asked about the injuries sustained and whether he sought medical assistance, Sarukhanyan replied, “He mainly suffered injuries to the head, with wounds and bruises on his face, but he did not go to the hospital and was treated at home. There are surveillance cameras in that area, and they recorded everything.”

Sarukhanyan also mentioned that they had no prior connection with the individuals in question: “I recognize them due to their past activities. Sheko, who has been arrested, had run for the city council elections in Gyumri in 2016 on the counter of the Prosperous Armenia Party, while Karo was the head of the youth wing of the Republican Party of Armenia and had run as a candidate for the parliament in 2018 on the Republican ticket. They are now actively participating in demonstrations organized in support of Kocharyan.”

He further noted that the other person who was with Sheko was an employee at Sheko’s kebab shop, and he is currently wanted.

It should be recalled that yesterday the police announced that a man known by the nickname Sheko, who is suspected of attacking Karen Sarukhanyan's friend, has been arrested.
