Constitutional Court Members Complain About Armenian Authorities in Riga: Arman Babajanyan

In Parliament, a draft law aimed at sending Constitutional Court judges into early retirement has triggered extensive discussions. "The Constitutional Court has isolated itself from its functions as a defender of constitutional supremacy, constitutional security, and constitutionality," stated MP Arman Babajanyan during a speech at the National Assembly podium.

According to the MP, regarding electoral disputes, the Constitutional Court has shown absolute tolerance toward massive violations of citizens' rights to free elections over the past 20 years. "There is a constitutional crisis in Armenia. The well-known decision of the Constitutional Court, which prohibited the publication of electoral lists, was made and later reaffirmed with the participation of the majority of the currently acting members of the Constitutional Court, which allowed the authorities at that time and subsequent governments to artificially add nearly half a million votes in favor of the candidate or party in every election and referendum," Arman Babajanyan noted.

At the end of his speech, Arman Babajanyan revealed that in recent days, Constitutional Court members have been in Riga, where they complained about the Armenian authorities and reported on the pressures they have been facing.
