Karo Paylan: 'I Will Not Consider the Elected Person My Patriarch'
Turkish parliament member Karo Paylan has made significant remarks regarding the ongoing election for the Patriarch of Istanbul, as reported by ermenihaber.am.
In a tweet, Paylan announced that he will not participate in the election and will not vote for anyone. He stated, 'I will not consider the elected person my patriarch. The names of state officials who play with our honor and the clergy who collaborate with them will be written in the dark pages of history.'
It is worth noting that there has been dissatisfaction in the community regarding the fact that the Patriarchate's statute prepared by the Turkish Ministry of Interior stipulates that only bishops under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Istanbul can be candidates for patriarch. This limitation has significantly reduced the number of candidates eligible to participate in the election.
