Corruption No Longer Has Political Patronage: Lena Nazaryan

The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Lena Nazaryan, stated on her Facebook page: “Corruption no longer has political patronage. These are not mere words; this is not just a political declaration. In our party, the rejection of corruption and intolerance towards it is an unshakable belief. It is regrettable, of course, that today there are corruption allegations against officials who are members of our party, but that does not change our attitude or the reality.

In our perception, corruption is not only a violation of the law; it is not only a crime and a despicable phenomenon, but also a personal insult. We consider it an affront to our dignity.

The government, the parliament, and local self-government bodies must start developing laws and decisions that are viable and applicable. Nowadays, there are well-written laws that have not passed the test of life. Particularly when examining environmental laws, we encounter issues where the logical connection of “if-then” is broken in many places, leaving open interpretations for officials, judges, and representatives of the private sector.

The parliament is an advocate and partner of all anti-corruption initiatives. On the occasion of the International Day of Combating Corruption, during an event organized by TIAC, I also spoke about the current investigative committees in the National Assembly working against corruption and the issues they are examining, the overall supervisory role of the National Assembly, and the upcoming actions.
