After Phone Conversation with Arsen Babayan, "My Step" MP Summoned for Questioning
The former deputy head of the National Assembly staff, Arsen Babayan, is the subject of questioning involving MP Vladimir Vardanyan from the "My Step" faction.
As reported by the newspaper "Hraparak" today, a close associate of Vardanyan stated that he is struggling with this situation and is doing everything to keep it undisclosed even within his team.
Vardanyan clarified on the media yesterday regarding his phone conversation with Babayan: "I just had a phone conversation and provided explanations regarding that... We discussed the Constitutional Court's decision; he defended it while I quite harshly criticized it."
When asked if he was sure that he would not be accused of collusion with the former officials and 'betrayal,' Vardanyan did not take the humor well: "Listen, I know Arsen Babayan, and by the way, I know a lot of people in and out of Armenia. Stop this topic."
He then attempted to justify himself, saying: "With Arsen Babayan, I think you have seen that we had serious discussions on Facebook, we have criticized each other strongly, and certainly, our relationship cannot be characterized as warm or friendly. On October 21, surprisingly, I received a call from Arsen Babayan, who attempted to defend the Constitutional Court’s decision while I presented my stance quite firmly."
