What Basis Should They Demand? Makunts on Ashotyan's Statement About Early Elections
During a conversation with reporters, Lilit Makunts, the head of the "My Step" faction, commented on Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) member Armen Ashotyan's statement regarding the accusations against Serzh Sargsyan, saying that the accusations are baseless and that they will strengthen the anti-Nikol coalition.
She stated that the trend of attempting to qualify these accusations as political persecution is unacceptable. "I want to remind that on the same day, two public announcements were made regarding corruption. One was related to Serzh Sargsyan, and the other to the Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Gevorg Loretsyan. Therefore, if there is a fight against corruption, there can be no concessions regarding this matter, regardless of whether it concerns our ally or the opposition. Thus, all such qualifications are unacceptable. We reaffirm that there will be no concessions regarding corruption," she emphasized.
Makunts pointed out that, naturally, ARF members will try to present everything as political persecution. Speaking about Ashotyan's statement demanding early parliamentary elections, Makunts noted, "On what basis should they demand that? I don’t even want to comment on that."
