No Political Persecution Under Our Rule, Claims Araik Harutyunyan

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Araik Harutyunyan, addressed journalists' questions in the National Assembly today, commenting on the statement released by the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) regarding the charges against former President Serzh Sargsyan.

“I believe there is complete confidence in the forces formed by this government and the law enforcement agencies established by this government, in contrast to the Republican Party and their statements,” he said.

When asked to clarify whether there is any political persecution, the minister remarked, “At least under our government, there has been no political persecution, there are none, and there will be none.”

It is noteworthy that the Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia published a statement yesterday concerning the charges brought against its president, former President Serzh Sargsyan. The statement specifically states that the charges against Sargsyan are viewed by the RPA as a striking manifestation of political persecution, aimed at silencing political opponents against the backdrop of threats to Armenia and Artsakh, including the recent developments regarding the negotiation process.
