Deputy Minister of Education and Science and His Driver Detained: NSS Disclosure
As part of extensive operational-search measures implemented by the employees of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, aimed at combating corruption, on December 4, 2019, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, as well as his driver and the president of one of the football clubs operating in Armenia, who also serves as the actual head of several supplier companies, were detained on suspicion of receiving a particularly large bribe.
According to circulating information, the detained Deputy Minister is Gevorg Loretsyan. Preliminary data suggests that the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, by providing support to the aforementioned businessman in tenders announced for the procurement of sports equipment and sportswear for the needs of the agencies under the ministry, reached an agreement to receive a particularly large sum of bribery with the assistance of his driver. They were caught immediately after a portion of the money was transferred to the Deputy Minister's driver.
