‘When the Azerbaijanis Displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh Return…’: Mammadyarov Again Attempts to Distort History
The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, responding to reporters’ questions about what expectations he has from tomorrow’s meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan in Bratislava, and whether a joint statement will be adopted, stated: “It is expected that we will move from the current situation and make progress. We must contribute to this in every way, otherwise, the current situation, the status quo, is not beneficial for anyone. We need to find a solution to the issue.”
In his remarks, Mammadyarov did not shy away from manipulation and once again attempted to distort history.
“When the Azerbaijanis displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh return to their permanent place of residence, that issue will arise. When the 5-7 regions are returned, only then should they be able to return to their homes. We must provide a clear assessment of how our partners view the security issue, and we need to have serious, substantive, and tangible negotiations. I hope that tomorrow we will open a new phase of such negotiations,” he said.
