Mr. Marukyan, don’t worry, none of my projects pass, so let yours not pass either. Petrosyan

It’s a mix of joy and sadness for me. This was stated by MP Gevorg Petrosyan from the Prosperous Armenia faction during the discussion on amendments to the law of the Republic of Armenia on service in national security bodies in the National Assembly.

“I am glad that we were opposed to this law last time because our national security issues are increasing, and we must be vigilant and able to confront them. I have never believed that it doesn’t matter who the head of the NSS is. Of course, it matters; a person must be a professional in their field,” he said.

Then Petrosyan expressed surprise at the ruling party’s change of position. “I’m surprised—what happened after the first reading? Mr. Deputy Minister, you came and justified that it was very important to bring someone from abroad, so what happened now? Mr. Marukyan, don’t take it to heart; none of my projects pass, so let yours not pass either,” he joked and continued, “But if we are serious, we truly need to treat national security issues with the utmost seriousness, regardless of our political views.”

According to Petrosyan, today more than ever, Armenia is facing both visible and invisible challenges. “We can ignore many issues, but we have no right to ignore national security problems. And that the system must be led by a competent person who understands the field is, it seems to me, not debatable for anyone,” he concluded.
