Maroonyan Suffers Technical Defeat in Today's Debate: Khazhakyan
David Khazhakyan, a member of the Yerevan City Council's 'Bright' faction, made a Facebook post informing that Hayk Maroonyan refused to debate with him. Below is the full text of the post:
"The Mayor will be live on Public Television in the evening, but he will not address the targeted questions that aim to expose the schemes of corrupt transactions; he has refused to come to the debate... Public has covered this issue for only 17 seconds during this entire time! Similarly phrased questions will be raised to Maroonyan. He will make bold claims, accuse the opposition, and, of course, say that there is a disinformation campaign against him. Meanwhile, the questions and conclusions from journalists will aim to address the truthfulness of Maroonyan.
It was the same yesterday, and it is the same today... Maestro Meshchyan said. This is the same Mayor who avoids open questions and debates—hiding behind his spokesperson and Facebook live—and now behind the public broadcast as well. A political debate is not taking place because the debating side is not ready to answer the questions from their opponent; they need time to prepare their false justifications against the accusations. As the candidate for mayor during my first term in the council, Pashinyan said, 'sending him to a debate is like sending him to a political sacrifice.' These were the reasons for his refusal to agree to the debate with me today. Maroonyan may even skip that broadcast; he has already suffered a technical defeat."
