I Consider It Meaningless to Demand Anyone's Resignation Today: Boris Navasardyan

The list of officials who should resign according to the unwritten laws of the state we envisioned a year and a half ago is expanding day by day. This was stated by Boris Navasardyan, the head of the Yerevan Press Club, on his Facebook page.

He particularly noted, “It does not make sense to mention names, as anyone could find themselves on that list due to circumstances, and the trend of expansion is evident. It turns out that they have not understood well what responsibilities they have undertaken and believe that the assessments they have made are unconditionally shared by the majority of citizens who voted for ‘My Step’ a year ago. This is a great illusion; people voted in favor of their dreams about power, which the current officials are still far from fulfilling. Everyone... Although it is clear that they are at different distances... Thus, I find it meaningless to demand anyone’s resignation today, especially since neither the addressees of the demands nor the others fully understand what they have done wrong.

Therefore, it is necessary to urgently ‘seal’ a very concrete ‘social contract’ concerning the relations between the authorities and society, where not abstract slogans will exist, but specific rules of the game will be established in various practical situations regarding transparency, accountability, efficiency of governance, urgent measures, timelines, and so on. And in case of violating that contract, anyone, regardless of their position, should henceforth have a moral obligation to resign. If this is not done today, we will not have the state we have dreamed of in the foreseeable future, and the disappointed will not forgive those who let them down, along with all the ensuing consequences.
