‘Hayots Jhangir’. The Ministry of Defense Will Give a Negative Conclusion

According to the newspaper ‘Hayots Jhangir’, the Ministry of Defense does not intend to extend the term of the law which allows individuals over the age of 27 who have not served in the military to avoid criminal liability by paying a specific amount.

The initiative to extend the law titled ‘On Citizens Who Have Not Served in Mandatory Military Service in Violation of Established Procedures’ was introduced by the opposition ‘Bright Armenia’ faction on November 15. They propose that the provisions of the law apply not only to those who turned 27 before 2017 but also to those who reached that age before December 31, 2019.

However, Deputy Minister of Defense Gabriel Balayan stated in an interview with the newspaper, ‘Regardless of the fact that such a project has been reintroduced, the Ministry of Defense will give a negative conclusion.’ This means that if one does not present for service, there is a possibility of up to three years of criminal liability if they return to Armenia before the criminal liability period (until the age of 32) expires.

It should be noted that the term for this law has been extended several times previously. For more details, refer to today’s issue of the newspaper.
