Fact: Authorities Take a 'Time Out' on the Dissolution of the Constitutional Court and the Campaign Against Hrayr Tovmasyan

According to the newspaper "Fact", it is apparent that there is a kind of "time out" in the Republic of Armenia's judicial sector, particularly regarding the ongoing developments surrounding the Constitutional Court, as the authorities have temporarily paused their efforts to dissolve the Constitutional Court and their campaign against Hrayr Tovmasyan.

The issue is that they have yet to find a solution that would not draw harsh criticism from both the Armenian society and the aware international community, while also allowing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to achieve his goal of having a compliant Supreme Court with a Levon Ter-Petrosyan-style president.

Various options are already being discussed within the government. However, according to our sources, no final conclusion has been reached as of yet. The only certain thing is the initiation of constitutional changes, which, according to representatives of the authorities, will commence in February 2020.

In this context, quite remarkable developments are also taking place concerning the much-debated Istanbul Convention. According to the newspaper's sources, the authorities currently find themselves in a predicament as they do not understand how to proceed with the ratification process of the convention, as they are effectively at a deadlock.
