‘Joxovurd’. Direct Advocacy of Desertion in Our Warring Country. Why is the Ministry of Defense Silent?
‘Joxovurd’ daily writes: ‘A member representing the ruling faction of the National Assembly, Hayk Sargsyan, has decided to draft a law offering military service through an accelerated procedure. It is entirely unclear why he is proposing this symbolic service, where if one does not wish to serve, they can pay 10 million drams to the state budget, serve for a month and then perhaps go home and lie on the couch. Whose initiative is actually this highly discriminatory proposal, which is essentially a direct advocacy for desertion in our warring country?
Anyone who has served or has at least a minimal understanding of military affairs will realize that it is impossible to learn how to handle firearms and military equipment in that symbolic one month. It’s impossible to master military operations in a month as one does over the course of 24 months of mandatory service. Service, after all, is not merely about sleeping and waking up in a military unit, but is fundamentally an education in military affairs. To engage in military issues without any basic understanding of the army means putting the country’s security at a real risk.
Why is the Ministry of Defense silent? Instead of promoting military service and the inviolability of the homeland and borders, is the defense ministry applauding the elite one-month service of the rich? Which ‘soft-pawed’ deserter fleeing from the army and the life of a soldier has ordered this elite honeymoon for the military unit?
